Terms of Use
The following types of content are unconditionally prohibited:
───────────────────────
Additionally, the use of any voicebank's character, contents, image, or any combination of the three with any form of AI is prohibited without permission. This includes, but is not limited to: in AI voice creation, text-to-speech programs, AI-generated images, as part of a dataset, etc. This also applies to any work created using a voicebank's contents, such as a vocal track created using UTAU.
Involving any voicebank's character, contents, image, or any combination of the three with any form of blockchain or non-fungible token (NFT) is prohibited.
Overt or heavily political content is prohibited. Overt or heavily religious content is prohibited. Music featuring these topics as themes to serve an artistic purpose are permitted, for example: "Lose Your Head" and "Collared" by Vane, "Aura" and "Honey I'm Home" by Ghost, "Propaganda!" by Crusher, etc.
Attribution and Character
Attribution
Published work must include the name of the voicebank as it is written. If the voicebank's name includes an official variation that holds equal meaning and description, e.g. an english and japanese spelling, only one version is required. (For example, the voicebank "スペアミント / Spearmint" can also be credited as either "スペアミント" or "Spearmint." Cotton Candy only needs to be credited as "Cotton Candy" or "コトーンケンディ" regardless of which voicebank is used).
Derivatives
Using a voicebank to portray an original character in a song is allowed as long as the voicebank is properly and clearly attributed. It must be understood that the voicebank's voice is being borrowed and cannot be claimed to belong to any other character.
Alteration
Cleaning or manually chopping and rearranging audio samples to obtain a desired voice effect is allowed if done without the use of AI, for example by using non-AI tools in a digital audio workstation (DAW), under the conditon that all resulting samples fully comply with the terms of use.
- Cleaning audio samples typically pertains to changes such as noise reduction and restoration, normalizing volume, etc.
- Manually chopping and rearranging samples typically pertains to changes such as shortening or lengthening vowels, creating consonant blends, arranging CV samples into a VCV format, etc.
Permission is required for any changes made outside of this general expectation. Distributing edited samples without permission is prohibited.
Altering samples in any other way is prohibited. Altering samples in such a way that the voice becomes unrecognizable, or that its origin becomes questionable, is prohibited. This does not apply to altering a vocal track created in UTAU through the use of UTAU flags or DAW effects, only to the samples themselves. Using UTAU flags or DAW effects on a vocal track created with UTAU is encouraged.
Releasing an edited oto.ini file by itself is allowed.
