Usage Content

The following types of content are unconditionally prohibited:

  • Criminal or illegal content
  • Explicit underage sexual content
  • Bigotry or hateful content
  • Violations of UTAU's Usage Policy
  • Content created for erotic purposes using any character under 18 years old

Additionally, the use of voicebanks' content and image with any form of AI (such as, but not limited to: in AI voice creation, TTS, AI-generated images, using them as part of a dataset or training, etc.) without permission is prohibited. This also applies to any work created using a voicebank's contents (Such as a vocal track created using UTAU). Involving voicebanks' content and image with any form of blockchain or NFT is also prohibited.

Outright, heavily political and religious content are prohibited. Music featuring these topics as themes to serve an artistic purpose are permitted (Such as "Lose Your Head" and "Collared" by Vane, "Aura" and "Honey I'm Home" by Ghost, "Propaganda!" by Crusher, etc.).
  • Violent content created for artistic purposes is allowed.
  • A Voicebank's individual Terms of Use will state what sexual content is allowed, if any.

    • Attribution and Character


    • Published work must include the name of the voicebank as it is written.
    • Published works do not need to include the name of the author, however, voicebanks cannot be attributed to any other author.
    • Published works do not need to include visual depictions of the voicebank's character.

    Derivative character voices are prohibited. Using a voicebank to portray an original character in a song is allowed as long as the voicebank is properly attributed.

    Cleaning or manually chopping/rearranging samples to obtain a desired voice effect is allowed (by hand and without the use of AI), but distributing edited samples is prohibited. Heavily altering the way samples sound is prohibited (Does not apply to using UTAU flags or DAW effects when creating a vocal track, only to altering the base wav files).

    Releasing an edited oto.ini file by itself is allowed.


    Commercial Use

    • Most Voicebanks allow Commercial Use for original music, or any music a creator has the right to monetize.
    • Most Voicebanks allow Commercial Use of a character's image. This is generally allowed when accompanying original music such as in cover art, videos, small quantities of promotional merchandise, etc.
    • Selling any part of the voicebanks themselves, including voice samples and official art, is prohibited.
    • A Voicebank's individual Terms of Use will state if it is allowed for commercial use.
